Michelle Mone: Assets Frozen Amid Peerage Scandal

Baroness Mone Breaks Silence on Media Deception

Assets Linked to Conservative Peer Frozen

Conservative peer Michelle Mone has apologized after admitting that she and her husband, Doug Barrowman, lied to the media about their involvement in a peerage scandal. The scandal has led to the freezing of approximately 75 million pounds worth of assets linked to the couple.

Mone, a self-made millionaire and former lingerie tycoon, was made a Conservative peer by David Cameron in 2015. However, she has since resigned from the Conservative Party and is no longer a member of the House of Lords.

The freezing of assets is part of an ongoing investigation by the National Crime Agency into allegations of money laundering and fraud. Mone and Barrowman have not been charged with any crime, and they deny any wrongdoing.

In a statement, Mone said: "I would like to apologize for any distress or inconvenience my previous statements may have caused. I recognize that I should have been more transparent about my relationship with Barrowman and the circumstances surrounding his involvement in my business affairs."

Mone's apology follows weeks of intense scrutiny from the media and the public. The scandal has also raised questions about the standards of conduct expected of members of the House of Lords.

The freezing of assets is a significant development in the scandal, and it is likely to put further pressure on Mone and Barrowman. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear what the outcome will be.

This often-quoted observation from Lord Chief Justice Hewart uttered a hundred years ago may be one for Michelle: "It is of fundamental importance that justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done."
